Before my trip, I saw many people asking about where to throw their trash, as there is a lack of garbage bins around the streets of Japan. Lots of advice to them saying 'there are always bins at konbinis you can dispose it etc" seems to be having an effect as on my last trip, I started seeing garbage bins covered by handwritten signs in English saying that only trash from that store would be accepted. Saw this in Family Mart Links near Umeda station that also said something about CCTV and that littering would be prosecuted, and another place that has escaped my memory.
Just thought it was interesting to point out that observation. Maybe best to buy something now and then and not just use the store as a place for trash
