Foreign Visa credit cards are ok again to charge mobile Pasmo

Foreign Visa credit cards are now ok again to charge mobile Pasmo

Over a year ago it became impossible to charge a mobile Suica or Pasmo with a foreign Visa credit card. Suica came back online some months ago but Pasmo was still NG until just recently.

The reason it’s a big deal is that unlike Suica which codes as “shopping”, Pasmo codes as “travel”. If you have a credit card that gives bonuses for “travel” you can take advantage of this to get a lot more credit card points.

For example I have the US Chase Business Ink Preferred/Sapphire Reserve that gives 3x for “travel”, but 1x for general shopping.

If I use the credit card directly at drug/convenience/electronic/clothing stores, entertainment places etc etc I will only get 1 point per $, but if I charge my Pasmo with that Visa card I will get 3 points, then I can use the Pasmo at the above places.

Basically you can get 3x points at any place that accepts Pasmo, no matter the category.

Of course if you don’t have a travel bonus card, at least you can charge Pasmo again with foreign Visa credit cards which may be convenient
