Where’s the real Kobe beef?

I started living with my girlfriend in Kobe about 6ish months ago but I haven't tried Wagyu beef yet. A little discouraged perhaps also by the tourist-catching look that the restaurants have. I expect the price itself to be high, but when I almost decide to go into those places I stop before entering as it feels like I'm going into a half-scam place. Am I wrong and they are the opposite of what Im thinking? Has anyone had experience and can recommend a place to try it in the area between Homeji-Kobe-Osaka?
