Itinerary check – 5 days in Tokyo (2nd time visiting)

I’m going to be returning to Tokyo next spring. This is my second time in the city. Last time around, I also spent around 5 days, and hit all the major tourist spots – shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, tsukiji, teamlabs, akihabara, harajuku, Meiji jingu etc.

This time around, I’m looking to take a more relaxed approach. I don’t have anything specific I want to see. Rather, I’m looking to just explore a couple of neighbourhoods each day, walk around aimlessly and take in the vibes, and hit up some cafes, shops and restaurants. I’m focusing on neighbourhoods and areas that I didn’t touch during my last visit.

Here’s what it looks like so far:

Day 1: Flight lands at around 5 pm in haneda. By the time I get to my hotel, it’ll probably 7 pm or so. I’ll be exhausted after a 14 hour flight so I probably won’t be doing too much. I’m staying in Ginza and the plan is to just rest up, take a shower, and walk around and grab some food in the area

Day 2: Askausa – I didn’t hit Asakusa last time as there just wasn’t time so I do want to spend some time there now, and check out Sensoji, Nakamise-dori etc. later on in the day, I’m thinking about hitting up Sugamo – my wife wants to see the old lady shopping street lol. If there’s time (and if we have energy), may also go to Nezu Shrine and Ikebukuro

Day 3: Kichijoji – I hear very good things about this area so I’ll make the trip out on day 3. Walk around Inokashira Park and check out Harmonica Yokocho. I wanted to visit Ghibli Museum but it seems like a pain to get tickets so I’ll pass. Later on, I’ll head down to Shimokitazawa and do some shopping and eating. I want to to visit Tokodoro Ravine but not sure how much time I’ll have. Thoughts?

Day 4: Planning on doing a day trip to Kawaguchiko depending on the weather. This can go on Day 3 or Day 5 as well depending on how clear it is and I’m flexible to move things around. If we come back early enough, might head up to Koenji…if we have energy

Day 5: Going to be a pretty relaxing day. Planning on hitting up Nakameguro and Daikanyama and just walking around and exploring. Nothing concrete planned.

How does this itinerary look overall? Any cool places we can add in the ‘hoods we’re going to? Anything to cut?
