Ras el hanout in Tokyo

I know it is really really specific but I have to cook a couscous for some friends (apparently most Japanese and Americans don’t know what it is and I want to give them a taste of Paradise) but I don’t know where to find the specific spices for it (Ras el hanout). It is possible that such a global city has at least one shop which sell this spice.

Do you know where I can look for it by any chance? Thanks!

  1. Hehe, I haul as much as I can whenever I visit my parents but if you are good at DYI you can mix the spices yourself by buying each and every ingredient from shin Okubo

  2. If you’re in the east side of Tokyo, visit Ameyoko (just south of Ueno Station). There are several spice shops along the street.

  3. Since they don’t know what it is, just smoke some ribs and call it couscous.

  4. Don’t forget to serve Ayran too, for full paradise experience.

    Ayran is salty! 🎶

Ayran goes well with couscous! 🎶

    Ayran is life! 🎶

  5. American here; Had NO IDEA what couscous was until I moved to the west coast and was introduced to foods from a bajillion countries.

It’s AMAZING and I eat it at least once a month now. (gotta ration the boxes I buy when traveling because it’s hard to find here in japan)
