Where to keep my Japanese handkerchief (in my bag)?

I've seen people carry around little handkerchief like towels here in Japan and I'd love to get some for when I return to Europe since we also don't always have toilet paper available.

But I am not sure how to store it in my bag, I've seen an older man put it in his pocket, another girl just in her bag and the rest are just wiping their forheads or whatever so I don't know how they do it, is there a container or specific way people keep these in their bags or do they just drop them in like a wallet and fish it out when needed?

I'd appreciate any assistance 🩷

  1. You can use a small plastic bag inside another bag, but there’s no rule or etiquette.

Whilst they’re a godsend in hot weather, I’ve personally found that it’s quite easy to lose them. I’ve had to track them down a few times, and one I couldn’t find.

  2. it’s honestly up to you, whatever works best for you. you can put it in your pocket, your bag pocket, in your bag as is, a pouch in your bag…etc. i like to put mine in a ziplock bag in my bag or backpack, and i usually keep a little plastic bag to put my dirty or wet towels in.

  3. First of all, I think you might be mixing two items up here: handkerchief and face-towel.

Of course, depending on the person they might use them interchangeable, especially if they only got one on hand.

A face towel generally is only used to wipe ones face or neck or maybe even the arms.
A handkerchief is used for more hygiene related things, like after washing the hands or some use it for blowing their nose (though have seen this one rarely in Japan).

I carry my handkerchief neatly folded in my back pocket of my pants.
My face-towel I carry either in my bag in a bit separated area or compartment or sometimes in my pants front pocket. Or even just in my hand if I’m walking outside a bit loner and need to wipe my face every few minutes anyways.

Some of my female friends, who are a little bit more on the, how to say it… ladylike/princess side, I saw them sometimes put the face-towel into a small plastic container, kinda like a small bento box, inside their handbag.

  4. I just put mine in my bag! I will say however that I use thin half size towels ([like these](https://amzn.asia/d/jlCNhiQ), though mine are from FrancFranc)

Because they’re small, they dry quickly and don’t make my bag wet 🙂

  5. Everyone I know including me just puts it in their bag. Just use it for wiping sweat/face and change it everyday
