So my wife who is currently here on a dependent visa started a small resale business on the side for some side income. We know that she can start a å€‹äººäº‹æ¥ if she makes more than 300k per year on the side hustle to declare that income so that's something that seems ok for this year.
Recently the business seems to be picking up and although I don't expect it to make more than 1.2m yen and put her out of dependent status I'm wondering what we can do when she eventually crosses that threshold.
The idea is to change to a business manager visa but it seems to require an investment af 5M yen which is not something that it's feasible in the given time range of 1 year.
Does anyone know if there's a way for her to obtain a visa and maintain her business going?
Thanks

what kind of dependent visa? you mention wife so I assume spouse visa and for spouse visa there’s no restriction on what activity you can do. If the goal is just to be allowed to continue the business, staying as spouse visa seems to be ok

AIUI the 1.2m is not a hard threshold, it’s more about being clearly economically dependent on you. And conversely for business manager it’s “on the scale of” having 5m in capital or an office with 2 Japanese employees, so there may be some wiggle room there. But yeah it’s going to be a difficult needle to thread and may well be impossible.
