Help – Itinerary check – 21 days in November and December

Hello everyone! My fiancé and I are planning a three-week trip to Japan. I've been to Japan before and am already familiar with Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.

The main purpose of this trip is to explore different areas and see the autumn foliage. We'll still spend some time in Tokyo and Kyoto, but we'll also use them as hubs for visiting other cities.

Day 1 – Yamagata (11/16)

  • Land at Sendai International Airport at 11 AM
  • Transport to Yamagata
    • Stop at Sendai Station for lunch
  • Check in to hotel in Yamagata
  • Dinner near Nanukamachi Street
    • Late-night shopping at Uniqlo
      • Day 2 – Yamagata
  • Early morning: Climb Yamadera temple
    • Breakfast near the temple after the climb
  • Afternoon & evening
    • Transport to Ginzan Onsen (3 PM check-in)
    • Enjoy the night at Ginzan Onsen (keep hotel reservation in Yamagata)
      • Day 3 – Yamagata
  • Breakfast and checkout at Ginzan
  • Return to Yamagata
    • Visit Yamagata Prefectural Sports Park & Tendo Onsen
    • Explore Momiji Park & Senshoji Temple
  • Send luggage to Tokyo hotel
    • Day 4 – Nikko (11/20)
  • Early morning: Travel to Nikko and Lake Chūzenji
    • Stop at Akechidaira Ropeway Observation Deck en route
  • Explore Kegon Waterfalls, Ryuzu Falls, and Lake Chūzenji
  • Check in to hotel and spend the night
    • Day 5 – Nikko
  • Have breakfast, check out of hotel, and head to Nikko Station
  • Explore the area: Shinkyō Bridge, Nikkō Tōshogū, and Shōyō-en Garden
  • Transfer to Tokyo and check in to hotel in Shinjuku
  • Late dinner in Shinjuku
  • Take a stroll if we're up for it
    • Day 6 – Kamakura (11/22)
  • Day trip from Shinjuku to Kamakura
    • Visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, Hokokuji, and Komachi-dori
    • See Kotoku-in
    • Explore Koshigoe Rakko Park (the crossing)
    • Watch sunset at Cape Inamuragasaki
  • Return to Tokyo
  • Late dinner with reservation
    • Day 7 – Tokyo
  • Early Morning: Meiji Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue and Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
  • Lunch at Tsujihan Ark Hills
  • Shopping, relaxing, and enjoying food
    • Day 8 – Kawaguchiko Day trip
  • Fuji Express train to Kawaguchiko
    • Chureito Pagoda, Shimoyoshida Honcho Street
    • Lunch at Kawaguchiko Station
    • Oishi Park, Momiji Tunnel
  • Back to Tokyo
  • Dinner with Reservation
    • Day 9 – Tokyo
  • Ueno Park
  • Shopping, relaxing, and enjoying food
    • Day 10 – Kanazawa (11/26)
  • Early Morning: Transfer from Tokyo to Kanazawa (6 am) (Shinkansen)
  • Store luggage at the Hotel and check in later
  • Omicho Market, Kanazawa Castle, Edomachidori Ave, Kenrokuen Garden
    • Day 11 – Kanazawa
  • Higashi Chaya, Nagamachi Samurai District
  • Explore local food
    • Day 12 – Shirakawago (11/28)
  • Check out the Hotel in Kanazawa, take Rev. Bus
  • Day trip to Shirakawago
    • Explore the village
  • Take a bus to Takayama
    • Check-in Hotel
    • Dinner near Hotel
      • Day 13 – Takayama (11/29)
  • Send Luggage to Kyoto
  • Miyagawa Morning Market, Hidatakayama (old town)
  • Shōwa-kan Museum, Shiroyama Park
  • Other local attractions
    • Day 14 – Ghibli Park (11/30)
  • Early Morning: Check out, Take Rev. bus to Nagoya (6:30 am), and transfer to Ghibli park
  • Spend 4-5 hours in Ghibli Park
  • Make our way to Kyoto (Shinkansen) (late)
    • Check-in Hotel
      • Day 15 – Kyoto (12/1)
  • Half Day trip to Uji
    • Nintendo Museum (if lucky)
  • Back to Gion for Food
  • Temple light show at night
    • Day 16 – Amanohashidate and Ine
  • The earliest train to Amanohashidate
    • Amanohashidate Viewland, Chionji Temple
    • Amanohashidate Kasamatsu Park
  • Take the Bus to Ine
    • Ine Bay Sightseeing Boat
    • Enjoy the Sunset and Stay the night at Ine
      • Day 17 – Kyoto
  • Take transportation back to Kyoto
  • Stop by Kameoka
    • Jinzō-ji Temple, Kuwayama Jinja, Izumo Daijingu
  • Gion Afternoon
    • Day 18: Kyoto
  • Morning: Arashiyama
  • Afternoon and Rest of the day:
    • Sannenzaka
    • Kiyomizu-Dera
      • Day 19: Kyoto
  • Eikandō Temple
  • Bishamondō Temple
  • Yamashina Canal
  • Biwako
  • Send luggage to Osaka Hotel
    • Day 20 – Hiroshima (12/6)
  • Checkout hotel and transfer to Miyajima
  • Enjoy Miyajima island
  • Check into the Hotel and stay the night
    • Day 21 – Hiroshima
  • Check out the Hotel and make our way to Hiroshima station
  • Atomic Bomb Dome, Hiroshima Castle
  • Lunch at Hiroshima
  • Transfer to Osaka, check in at the Hotel, and do last shopping near Dotonbori
    • Day 22 – Fly out from Kansai Intl. Airport (12/8)

Could you please take a look at my itinerary and offer some suggestions? I'm wondering if I might be trying to do too much.

I feel like I have a lot of time in Kyoto, so I'd love some suggestions for day trips (I've already been to Kobe and Himeji).
