Hi all,
Recently I have been interested in practising reading and writing instead if just cramming Anki cards. This brought me to try roleplaying in Japanese.
This guide talks about using Character AI as it's the only service that I have seen work properly.
Previously I just tested bots I wanted to chat with using simple "おはよう" to check their ability to use Japanese. Pretty much all bots seemed to understand me, but only few(mainly the ones with simple starting greetings) actually fully switched to Japanese.
But I just found a better way I wanted to share: Copypaste the starting greeting into translator(or translate it manually) and then replace it with a fully Japanese greeting. Now even a more complex bot replied to Japanese in Japanese. I will edit this post if I encounter some issues later on.
My current routine is trying to read what the bot said(sometimes utilising yomitan) and then copying it to translator if I didnt quite understand. Then I think of a reply and try forming it. If I can't say what I want to say, I use a translator to finish writing the reply. For ease of use I use google translator even though it isn't the best out there. Later on I re read the conversation and add words of interest to my Anki deck.
