Meeting someone at Kyoto Station

I am going to meet a former colleague at Kyoto Station. He told me to meet him at the Shinkansen ticket gate (Kintetsu side). For you Kyoto people – Is this the center gate or the south gate? What does he mean by the Kinetsu side of the station? We will be getting off the Shinkansen from Tokyo so he picked this place to meet him.
