Hello!
I know you get a lot of these but I was hoping for some recommendations for general locations. At the moment I was thinking Ueno, Asakusa, Shibuya or Akasaka.
We'll be looking to travel in October/ November time next year, two adults. We are wanting a hotel on the cheap side, no hostels or capsules.
Places of interest are Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Ueno, Ikebukuro and Akihabara. We're interested mostly in shopping relating to anime and gaming goods, arcades and gachapon. I suspect I'll want to visit the various Pokemon centers in addition to Ghibli store and other weeaboo type things. Also interested in visiting temples and shrines but I'll be honest I'm not bothered about being in close proximity to those as long as public transport is good from the hotel's district. We will be travelling through to Osaka via Kyoto and Nara for 3-4 days around half way through the trip and we intend to keep the hotel in Tokyo as our base. So our luggage would stay there whilst we're in Osaka instead of forwarding it all to Osaka and then back to Tokyo.
We are also vegetarian/ vegan and a lot of the vegan places seem to be in Shibuya and Ueno according to Happy Cow.
We have no interest whatsoever in nightlife, a 10pm bedtime is absolutely fine! We're also both (gay) women and I heard there's an area or two to avoid? We're also both heavily tattooed, I'm not sure if that matters in Tokyo!
