Japan aims to remove daily arrival cap in October to spur tourism

Another hint at the government’s plans for the future opening of Japan. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno says the government wants to consider how to alleviate C19 restrictions while also ‘maintaining a balance between preventing the spread of infection’ and promoting ‘social and economic activities’.

According to the Mainichi their government sources are suggesting PM Kishida is looking at removing the cap on daily arrivals, suggesting the other restrictions such as visa requirements and travel agency oversight may also be relaxed by this time. However nobody wants to put their name on the information, so it’s probably the government floating the idea to see if it is well received.

Nothing concrete, but another step towards a full reopening, and a possible timeline for it.
