Hello. I'm an English teacher and currently learning Japanese with Tae Kim's guidebook and other stuff I see around. Right now, I'm practicing noun phrases to review on adjective order. I need enlightenment here:
"A place with delicious food"
So in this example, we understand that "delicious" is modifying the word "food" (modification is when an adjective changes the characteristics for a noun).
So, if I take that to Japanese, Tae Kim and Google suggest this order:
"食べ物がおいしい場所" (keep in mind I'm just concerned about noun phrases and not verbs or more complex structures).
My question is WHY this order??? Why 「おいしい」–that's modifying 「食べ物」– is AFTER it? It looks like it's actually modifying 「場所」.
Wouldn't this one sound more efficient:
"おいしい食べ物の場所。" ?
Which of the two is appropriate? Do they both make sense? I need an insight on how modifiers work here. Help .
