Looking for recommendations on how to handle the visa as a pilot?

Hello,

I'm a pilot at an international cargo airline. Our job lets us live anywhere in the world and commute to work, which is a pretty cool perk. We have many pilots that live in Japan, but most of them are permanent residents through marriage.

Anyways, I'm interested in moving to Japan. I studied abroad in Japan for two years and want to come back! I'm curious if anyone has input on how to handle the visa situation in my case.

I feel like most of the typical visa categories don't apply to me. My job is probably closer to the digital nomad visa, which I could give a try but I'm not entirely sure it'd apply to me or not due to the nature of my job. My initial plan has been to do a 90 day tourist visa, and while I'm there securing a short term mansion rental, I could apply for the nomad visa and go from there.

I did a quick search of this board for pilots but didn't really see anyone else in my situation. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to go about this? I speak a little Japanese, but probably less than most of you on this subreddit.

Anyways thanks in advance for any friendly advice! I have a ton of other problems to resolve with this plan such as housing and healthcare and such, but I figure I need to start with the visa.
