This pass is good for travel on JR's local lines only, anywhere in the country, and is not valid as a base fare ticket for any limited express or shinkansen trains (except for the Hokkaido Shinkansen). This pass costs ¥7850 (or half-price for kids) and pays off if you are taking ¥2617 or more worth of train trips per day for three days straight, or two medium-to-long trips on regular trains, etc.
