This year had not been the best for tag team wrestling in any promotion probably outside of stardom. Tag team wrestling in new japan for decades has not been a focal point to the company not since I've started watching back in 2017. And looking before that as well. We were lucky with some very good teams in the past but we never really had a exciting story that fans got excited for.
I think tag wrestling should be important and have more than the regular story set ups and beats we've seen for new Japan. Only two feuds in new japan I felt were special with the in ring quality and the story attached to it. Golden Aces vs Dangerous Tekkers & Catch 2/2 vs War Dogs.
I think the junior division has been consistent in quality since Catch 2/2 first tag run and continued with the war dogs. But the heavy tag titles hasn't had that since 2020. I really hope the upcoming tournament showcase the teams better than they did last year.
