So I took out a lease on an apartment with Yoshizumi Home 2 years ago. It was one of the only companies where I had positive results finding an apartment because everywhere I went, I was met with "Gaikokujin NG"
Anyway, I've had a good time living here and truly don't have any intention to move from this building indefinitely, and took on the process of renewing the lease for 2 more years. Of course I was met with some renewal fees for services like FIS, a yearly additional one-time fee to the company I pay my rent to (not YH) as well as a home insurance renewal. All made sense to me.
However, what didn't make any sense at all was the addition of one more renewal fee, which was the largest, mind you, and basically the equivalent of a month's rent for me, which was to YH. I can't wrap my head around it. Why is the leasing company asking the highest fee which has resulted in me having to pay double rent this month (I did ask for clarification, to which they asked me to check my contract in which I signed that I would pay said amount, and it was indeed separate from the rent I had to pay this month). It's unfortunately my fault, since I was desperately trying to find an apartment so I just signed away, but what I really want to know, is it normal for leasing companies like Yoshizumi Home, Able or other companies to charge excessively large renewal fees? Or am I being fleeced?
Appreciate the help!
EDIT: For clarification, my rent is 65000 yen and they're asking me for a full 65000 as a renewal fee
