I’m coming up on my 3 year wedding anniversary and have been Japan for longer than that. I’m here on a spouse visa.
My husband quit working last May due to mental issues and has been claiming disability payments. I work part-time and also do freelancing online, although I don’t make much. With my income and his savings we get by just fine.
Will my husband receiving disability payments affect an application for PR?

I know this doesn’t help much, but it will depend on who handles your application and their mood on the day. They do care about your and your partner’s ability to provide for yourselves independently, though they have some leeway if they choose to exercise it, so it might be a hiccup, and it might not. (Paradoxically enough, they don’t care about this kind of thing when you apply for citizenship, just when you want certain classes of visa or PR.) But it’s still worth a shot. Good luck.
