My partner and I just arrived in Tokyo today and our debit cards aren’t working for cash withdrawals. We came here last year with the same cards and they worked fine. We used the cards as recently as a week ago in the states and they were fine. We called Chase and they said they saw no holds or issues on our cards and suggested the atms might not be approved for foreign transactions.
We had tried an atm in a train station, two at lawson, and one at 7-11 that specifically said it worked with visa and international cards.
So now we’re stumped. Our credit works fine and we’ve got some cash from cash we happened to have in our wallets.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?
ETA: Japan Post and a random 7/11 atm in shinjuku station worked. Thanks!
