Hi guys I have been learning Chinese for a while now but I am no where near fluent, only somewhere around understanding hsk 2. I am looking to going into an exchange program and I’ve been thinking about doing it in Japan. Lots of people say that traveling to Japan without knowing the language is a nightmare, I was wondering if my knowledge in Chinese will allow me to have conversations with native Japanese speakers. Ik that Japanese uses Chinese characters (kanji) and if it conveys across actual conversation. Or if at least Chinese is a common second language thats in Japan (similar to Spanish/English in the US) I tried researching it and only could find this post. Thanks
