What is the actual MNP process in transferring number to a new phone?

So I want to use the AU MNP service to transfer my phone number to Docomo.

If I apply for the MNP service online with AU, will I immediately lose access to my current (finished) contract? Or when I apply for the new phone and add the MNP number it will then cancel it?

Does this make sense lol

  1. You get a MNP reservation number which you use when you begin to sign up for service with docomo, and the switch over happens when the docomo sim goes online.

    Your AU sim works meanwhile, so no problem.
