I am a resident leaving Japan for <1 year, but also moving from my apartment. Should I file a 転出届?

I'm a US citizen working in Japan on a 5 year Engineering work visa, and I have a 在留カード and my Japanese employer sponsoring my visa. I'm planning to go back to the US for around 6 months under a みなし再入国許可, during which I plan to continue working remotely for the same company. However, since I will also move out of my apartment here, I know that in principle I should file a 転出届 at my 区役所 to indicate I'm "moving overseas," but I'm concerned this will cause me problems since I would not officially have an address in Japan for tax/banking/other purposes.

After searching online and through the subreddit (for instance this thread), it seems that my best bet is to not actually file the 転出届, and just set up a forwarding address through the post office to my work or a friend's address before I leave so that my address doesn't bounce important documents. This seems like the best solution, but I'm also concerned about the (perhaps slim) possibility that if someone else moves into my current address and tries to file residency, my residence may somehow be voided or overwritten.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? If so, what did you do?
