Hello!
I am currently taking a sabbatical from work. About 3 months into this. Travelling Asia at the moment but am thinking of moving to Japan to work as a software engineer.
I have about 11 years of experience and most recently have worked as a Lead Engineer at a startup (I'd say my skillset is more midlevel, though).
I'm 37 years old and have been speaking with a few recruiters for Japanese companies and there hasn't been any age discrimination I have noticed, as I've been forwarded to companies so far just fine, but they always ask for my date of birth, which makes me a little uncomfortable.
Is there an age limit on when a foreigner might expect to get an engineering job in Japan?
I speak Japanese at an intermediate level and have lived there previously for a few years. I do not have a visa there currently.
I also do not have a CS degree, but do have a bachelors in something unrelated. Would this preclude me from Engineering visas and subject me to a different sort of visa?
Thank you so much for any help.
