If say, hypothetically, one had a visa for a 2 year program, but wanted to leave after 1 year. Would there be legal issues? Would one not be able to get a visa again in the future?
They will give you a two year visa as a default. My program was 2 years but I started way ahead so only had 8 months in my program. I left with two months left because I wanted to go back to uni, and the day of unenrollment I had a month(?) to leave japan. I came back later that year on a tourist visa, so no there won’t be any ramifications as long as you follow procedure
The school will definitely report you to immigration if you quit school (or even just don’t come to class enough). They have to do this as there’s a lot of legal pressure on language schools to not act as “visa factories” to import labor from other countries. What immigration then does with that information varies, but unless you contact them and switch visa type or officially leave the country it could spell trouble.
