Hi there! I’m going to Japan in November. I am planning on going to the Zao fox village after my stay in Tokyo. I plan on spending two nights near Zao before going to Shirakawa-go Takayama and Kanazawa. The way I initially planned my itinerary was go from Tokyo to Sendai, spend the day there and at night move 35 min south of Sendai near tsukinoki station in Shibata district to an Airbnb. The next day I would go to the fox village and return to Sendai for the rest of the day and head back to the Airbnb in shibata at night. Next day make my way to Kanazawa.
But I’m am not fully sold on Sendai. To be honest there is only a dango store that I’ve been really interested in. I saw there is a castle and a really nice park and shrine. But that’s it. I’ve heard recommendations for instead staying in Zao. Or even Yamagata. The Airbnb in Shibata is really nice. But out of the way from Sendai and not directly on the path Tokyo-Sendai so it seems a bit of a hassle. It’s my first time in Japan and of course I’ll be spending a lot of time on the main cities like Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka. But I love japans country side so that’s also why I’m reconsidering Sendai. Not going to the fox village is not an option for me. That’s one of the main things I want to do. But any recommendations on where to stay and what to do for those two days near Zao before heading to Shirakawa?
