I received the MEXT graduate/research scholarship for 2025 and am currently trying to decide which school I will attend next year. I was wondering if anyone has studied at either Tokyo University of the Arts 東京藝術大学 or Kyoto University 京都大学?
My research is on Okinawan representation and "otherness" in Japanese film and visual media. Geidai seems like the most prestigious option from what I see, and the professor there took time to actually zoom call with me face to face. I only received one email from the professor from Kyoto, but they run a film lab specifically, and seem like the best option for film-centric studies. I feel lost trying to make a choice from half way across the world, and would really appreciate hearing other peoples' experiences at either school!
