I move to Japan soon, and was originally planning to get a motorbike and travel when there. I have a motorcycle A2 license in the UK aswell as a normal car license and I have an IDP already. My accomodation has motorbike parking I was pretty sure I could use at a price, and I’ve already researched insurance and such and was confident in getting my motorbike. But my university has just turned around and said that I cannot drive a motorbike or car in Japan “for my own safety”.
I wanted to know how much power they have over this, what would they do if I just tried to get a motorbike and drive it anyway, would they even know?
Also is there a use in trying to email asking if I could prove myself to be safe so that I could drive in Japan, such as taking a Japanese bike test.
And if I could not get a bike, would they know if I decided to get a temporary rental car/bike, and what would happen if they found out I got a rental/actually got a bike.
I’m also just curious if anyone else has experience driving as a student in Japan
Thanks
