Should I stay in Osaka and do day trips to Kyoto?

I want to go Kyoto in November but hotel prices are a bit expensive since it’s so close to the date and guessing everything in booked out.

I was wondering what staying in Osaka and doing day trips to Kyoto would be like. Financially is it better to just go Kyoto and stay there and how inconvenient would it be travel wise. Would I be too tired etc?
