Could a Lone Wolf type of character work in new japan?

So I rewatched TNAS video on Aj Styles when he was a lone wolf back in 2012-2013. And no matter how much of a mess Tna was at the time Ajs story was something to look out for.

And it got me thinking could a Lone Wolf type of character work in new japan?

I don't think it could work because of the structure in new japan or in Japanese wrestling in general where you need allies.
