My husband received a call from someone claiming to be from "immigration," saying he’s not allowed to leave or enter Japan because they detected illegal activity involving him.
They alleged that he used his Japanese phone number to apply for a Chinese phone number, which was then used to scam people in China. They told him to contact the Shanghai embassy to resolve the issue.
I’m fairly certain this is a scam, but has anyone else encountered something similar? What’s the goal of this scam if they didn’t ask for money?
