  1. I might just have some weeks ago. Small breakouts at my extremities which I initially thought were bug bites, followed by a day of moderately high fever, then a couple days of headache/fatigue. Now all better

  2. I had it when my oldest caught it. It was AWFUL. Canker sore type things on my mouth which made it hard to eat. I don’t remember my hands or feet giving me much grief, but the mouth sores sucked. I also might have had a fever and some cold symptoms.

FWIW they sell canker sore medicine in the stores and it works well. Look for 口内炎 medicine.

I had never heard of HFM, “ringo byo” or the other weird childhood diseases my first kid got. But I got them all!

  3. Caught it two years ago when my son did. He had one of the worst cases our pediatrician had ever seen (although remarkably retained his appetite), I had just a few spots on my hands and feet.

  4. I got it on my hands and feet. It was terrible. Two weeks of intense itching, followed by my skin sloughing off and losing two toenails.

Felt soooo good when the skin came off though.

Oh yeah, and I had two warts on my hands for years that were pretty stubborn and they also sloughed off and never came back

  5. my kids weren’t that bad and neither was I. my wife got the worst of it – super painful hands and feet both for her

  6. Coming from North America, I had no immunity to this. I got this about 7 years ago for the first and only time, infected by my first child. I had no idea what was happening to my body, but I thought I had tongue or throat cancer. I rarely get sick, so when I could not swallow, gulp without wincing in intense pain…it was a miserable few weeks. Speaking was also an ordeal. To top it off, the itching was really annoying. I feel for you, OP. Hang in there, it’ll subside eventually!

  7. My son has brought it home twice now but we didn’t catch it.

My boss’ kid has brought it home 3 times now and he got sick every time 😂

  8. Had a high 39+-40C fever for 3 days, hardly lucid for 1 day, chills, nausea, and then the sore throat. The bumps showed up after 3 days and were so painful I couldn’t hold anything or walk for a week. Following that they itched until the skin started blistering and fell off in patches. Took about 3 weeks until my skin stopped bubbling up and off, and then one day it was gone. Thankfully didn’t lose any nails but it was touch and go for awhile.

  9. I caught it from my kid in June. My hands and feet were bad. Covered in bumps. Two days of Mega pain. Lots of skin peeling on my feet after it went away. Three months later one finger nail and three toenails fell off.

  10. Son caught it at the mall. It was probably the child seat we used at the food court. I caught it. Wife didn’t. It was brutal. Intense pain in hands and feet along with sores and peeling skin. It’s been a month and my skin is still flaking off.

  11. Had it this spring.

It started with a fever and my hands felt cold.

Then as the fever was getting better I had canker sore things all over my throat and back of my mouth. Eating was hell.

Then as that was getting better I broke out on the soles of my feet and my hands. Walking wasn’t fun.

All in all I was home for 2 weeks straight. Do not recommend.

  12. Absolutely did!!!

My poor girl had a fever and spotting around her mouth from what I thought was herpes, ended up being hand foot mouth disease. Got it 100% from playing in a ball pool 😞

It really sucks that they closed down most of the public parks now. The advantage of the games being outside in the sun as a natural disinfectant cannot be understated. These indoor ball pools are absolutely disease ridden.

    Parents be warned!

  13. Got it from my 3 year old. The first day was pretty annoying but after that not too bad. I didn’t get any sores in my mouth though.

  14. My kid has it on her feet. Yesterday night I got a spot on my tongue and then tonight a few sores on my fingers and feet. I’ve been quite drained today and yesterday as well.

Edit: went out this morning and now it’s 14:00, and boy do I feel like shit.

  15. I had it when I was a kid, but my only symptom was the tiniest fever you could imagine and some red spots on my hands that were barely even itchy. I was forced to stay at home because it was contagious, but I felt almost nothing and it resolved itself within a week. I treated it like it was vacation. Didn’t pass it to the rest of my family.

  16. I had it last month. It’s horrible. It took a week for it to start feeling better, but the skin peeling on my hands & feet (where the blisters and spots were) is, tbh, still occurring. It’s insane how long the aftermath is. Also, the spots scar pretty badly so I recommend moisturizing and using Vitamin E when you can.

  17. Daughter did. Most likely from the nursery. Doctor said it was going around and gave us medicine. Wasn’t a big deal.

  18. My son caught this disease, he was on quarantine for at least 2 weeks to make sure nobody else catches the disease in our family since it is contagious. He was given a cream for itch/rashes and some medicine for the fever and colds.
