Hi guys,
I'll be doing my first ever (solo) trip to Japan in November for 14 nights, and would love any advice/input you guys have on what order to do things – as well as what cities to actually stay overnight at.
I have my first 5 nights booked in Tokyo, split between Shibuya and Akasaka. I know I want to travel on the Sunrise Express on the 6th night between Tokyo and Osaka (I haven't booked this yet but I believe the tickets are released one month in advance).
I have heard great things from friends about Osaka, so plan to stay here for around 4 nights – I'm debating whether to stay further nights in Nara or Kyoto, or whether to visit them during the day, using Osaka as a base. If I have time, I'd like to visit Hiroshima as a day trip from here as well. Is it worth staying in different areas of Osaka, or just committing to one for the whole stay?
On the way back to Tokyo, I really want to visit Hakone and Fuji (would probably spend a day at each if possible). I'm not exactly sure what the best way to get there from Osaka/Kyoto would be, so open to suggestions! I'll probably spend a night in a nearby town between the two, if not in Hakone itself.
After that, I will go back to Tokyo for the last 1-2 nights as that is where I will fly from. Please let me know what you think of my itinerary so far, and if you have any suggestions in terms of order/structure and advice! I will be travelling light, and want to keep my plans fairly open and flexible
