College During “Gap” Year in Japan

Hi!

I am a dual citizen of the US and Japan. I plan to take a gap year after high school in Japan to better my Japanese. However, I don't think I'd be able to just sit there, burning what ive estimated will total somewhere around 20k USD that I could otherwise save without at least pursuing my education or an intensive language class (both of which my father who is Japanese assured me he'd pay for). So, my question is this: if I were to attend university in Japan in an english langauge instruction program for a year, how hard would it be to transfer the credits to a college in the US? Alternatively, are there intensive language courses that I could attend? I would be living in Tokyo.

Also, something separate: what is the sports culture like post-highschool in Japan? I trained with an eclectic throwing club for a week while I was in Tokyo in the past, but I am wondering how common things like that are? Sports are a big part of my life and I would like to keep it that way.
