Hi! I am a freelancer and want to put up a few posters around town to advertise my service. Does anyone have experience with this? I can't find any information online. I just want to know if it's even allowed and what regulations there are for advertising posters.

Easiest way is to go through a service like this:

In Japan in most places people don’t really ‘put up’ posters by themselves in public places. You send the image to some company and they print it out, add it when it’s time and remove it when times up, manage the space and do that for everyone.
If you see a non-chain shop or restaurant etc with lots of posters or something on their own property then you can ask them individually.
