WHV- part time pay

Hello! I have plans to move to japan within the next year or so with a whv.
Im currently learning hiragana (will work my way up), and intend to stay in a share house to save money.

My question: how is it possible to be allowed to work only part time (28 hours max i think) and afford the cost of living whilst also travelling japan?
Im sure its doable, and i want to enter the country with at least 4-5k in £, but is living and travelling comfortable on a part time wage?

Ideally if i enjoy my experience ill swap my whv to a working visa, so working full time is available to me in the future.

EDIT: just found out its student visas that are limited to 28 hours- but the point of getting a whv instead of a working visa is that you’re not supposed to occupy your whole time working-how do people get around this?

  1. You don’t have an hourly limitation on a WHV but the whole point of the visa is tourism, not work. So, you use your savings for travel and living expenses, and may take up a job if you so wish. The visa isn’t for people who have to work for their living for the duration of the travel.

  2. I’m also planing to go on WHV next year and then eventually change to work visa afterwards. One option that might save you money while traveling, is doing jobs in hostels / camping places etc where you work a few hours a day and get to stay there for free + sometimes get payed or served meals. These kind of jobs you could find in pages like Workaway.
The only thing am unsure of is if they would be ready to provide us with the ERFS to get the visa.
