Hello everyone,
We (couple in their 27s) are going for our second time in Japan. We already looked at a lot of posts to get ideas and we are thankful to you all. During our first trip we visited all "major" locations (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hakone, Hiroshima, Kamakura, Hachioji, Kobe).
For this time, we want to go North a bit. We are finalising our itinerary and would be glad to have your feedback if for example we missed something or if something is not possible during winter, etc…
Normally I already checked that everything we are going to is open during New Year’s celebrations. Also the program may seem a bit packed but we are somewhat fast to check a location…

Day 1 – Arrive at NRT
- Forward luggages to Nagoya
- Rest in Tokyo after the long plane travel (shopping, eating, walking…)
- Get our hotel in Shinagawa
Day 2 – Ghibli Park + Nagoya
- Take the Shinkansen early to Nagoya
- Go to Ghibli Park around opening time
- Visit the SCMaglev and Railway Park
- Visit Atsuta Jingu Shrine
- Check Shirotori Garden
- Go the Nabano No Sato by the evening to see the illuminations
Day 3 – Central Nagoya
- Go to Nagoya Science Museum
- Visit Osu / Osu Kannon
- Check Oasis 21 (big supermarket)
- Check Nagoya Castle
- Go to Endo-ji Shotengai Shopping Street
Day 4 – External Nagoya
- Go by train to Meiji Mura Museum
- Go by train to Gifu
- Gifu Park -> Gifu Kinkazan Squirrel Village -> Gifu Castle -> Gifu Japan-China Friendship Castle
- Check the old town of Kawaramachi
- Go to Suidoyama Observation Deck
Day 5 – Day Trip to Takayama
- Visit Takayama (any recommendations?)
Day 6 – Go back to Tokyo for NYE
- Go back to Tokyo
- Go to the Warner Bros Studio Tour Tokyo Harry Potter
- Rest in the afternoon/evening to prepare for the big night
- Go to Oji Inari Fox Shrine Procession
- Do Hatsumode
- Party… (suggestions?)
Day 7 – Hangover and visit central Tokyo
- Go to TeamLab Borderless
- Go to REEAST Break Room
- Shop NY Lucky Bag
Day 8 – Central Tokyo
- Program still open (New Year Greeting from emperor, Kabukicho Tower, Cooking Class, Earthquake prevention lessons…)
Day 9 – Going to Sendai
- Train from Tokyo to Sendai
- Visit Osaki Hachimangu
- Visit Zuihoden Mausoleum
- Check Sendai Daikannon
- Explore Sendai (Jozenji-dori Avenue)
Day 10 – Daytrip to Matsushima
- Train to Matsushima
- Boat around Matsushima islands
- Go to Fukuurabashi Bridge
- Check Zuiganji Temple
- Explore Matsushima
Day 11 – Daytrip to ???
- We have no idea where to go from Sendai, any idea ?
Day 12 – Train to Hachinoe

Day 13 – Train to Hakodate

Day 17 – Explore Sapporo

Day 18 – Daytrip to Otaru / Yoichi

Day 19 – Going back to Toyko
- Flight from Sapporo To Haneda early morning

Day 23 – Last Day in Tokyo

- Departure from Narita around noon
