This may be a bit late, but my wife and I just booked our trip for the beginning of October. We have 2 kids (5 and 2) and have not travelled internationally since the first was born. This trip will be just for us and are excited to have our first ryokan experience. We are very food driven travelers but also want to relax and think Hakone for 1 night between Osaka and Tokyo would be great for our itinerary. Would prefer to stay around the $700 for 2 people 1 night but could splurge a bit more for the right place.
Top priorities:
Private onsen – attached, preferably open or semi open (tattoos)
In room kaiseki (major points for better food)
Would highly prefer a view
That said, I have narrowed down the choices to the following:
Hakone Suishoen – $750 for breakfast only / $1050 for dinner + breakfast
Senkyoro – $630 for dinner + breakfast
Hakone Ginyu – Price + availability TBD
Would love some recommendations for ryokans. In room meal service seems to be the hardest to find during my search.
