I might be going for an internship next year in Japan and could be there for up to 4-5 months. I am yet to know the exact location of my residence, but have been informed the work place will be in the Minato area.
I currently live in London and a regular Cinema goer. I have a unlimited membership (any movie any time) and go probably around 8-10 times a month.
What cinema chains are the best in Japan? Are some better in terms of frequent cinema goers/unlimited memberships. Are there any cinema's there are more expensive but worth it for ''big'' films and anticipated release?

Going to the theater in Japan is a pretty fun experience but in the coming months before you leave I wouldn’t see any movies. Films tend to release a lot later in Japan (my theory is bc they need to be subbed/dubbed over?) For ex, the new Beetlejuice film that was released Sept 6th in the US, will be available in Japan on Sept 27th. The theaters are usually really comfortable and I never tried the snacks or food but they usually have little shopping areas where you can buy film related posters and goods. Personally I only went to Toho in Shinjuku (it’s a pretty big chain and has multiple locations in the city areas) and Aeon in Hachioji. Both times I had a good experience! The price is honestly not bad, clocking about 1500¥-2000¥ for the tickets, but uni students get a small discount if they have a valid ID.
They serve beer!
I think the best theater in Tokyo is Grand Cinema Sunshine in Ikebukuro.
They have the largest IMAX screen in Japan.
But some films are not available there so you would have to go to other theaters.
When it comes to the best chain, I think it’s Toho cinema.
The number of theaters and the quality of popcorn are better than others.
Toho Cinema has Dolby Atmos, which has significantly better sound quality than Imax. It also has an aspect ratio that I prefer. So my recommendation is Toho.
Everybody’s focused on the biggest and best but my personal favorite movie theater is Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa. It shows some lesser-screened indie titles and is charmingly old and shitty. It feels like a movie theater out of time.
Cinemas are pretty good quality overall in Japan. There are no unlimi memberships. There are discount tickets/days
Cinema in Japan is so fun!! The one in Ikebukuro was my favourite
