All year the talk has been that Naito needs to main event the dome because he’s the only 1A draw that the company has left, with Naito vs ZSJ happening at KOPW and in my opinion Zack likely to win, a lot of people have asked about what the Wrestle Kingdom main event would be with a rematch unlikely.
I’ve seen people suggesting a main event against different outsiders, and while I generally think that’s a bad idea (I’ve seen some people suggest Danielson 3) the one exception I would make to that is Okada.
Obviously this would depend on his AEW commitments, but I think he makes sense in so many ways. Let’s say it’s late 2023 before we knew Okada was leaving and you asked someone “if ZSJ is to win the big one who should it be against” then I think the popular opinion would be Okada. It’s the one guy that Zack has not been able to surpass.
I think it works in so many ways. First of Okada is obviously that 1A Tokyo Dome draw than you want (maybe even bigger than usual with him leaving Japan), it’s not the same as just throwing some random outsider because Zack’s career is strongly tied to him so it makes sense. Lastly, it’s very likely Zack passes the belt on to one of the young guys and the cache of beating Okada at the dome on top of the G1, you can build up as Zack as a real obstacle and make whoever beats him eventually an even bigger deal in the process.
This is just fantasy booking for the sake of it, I just put this out cause this idea came to me and I was curious how people would feel about this.
