Auto Insurance Claim?

About a month ago my kid dinged another vehicle’s door, which I found out after the fact. When we came back outside the owner of the other vehicle was there waiting for us and a report was filed. Fast forward a month later and my insurance company is claiming the cost is nearly $2000. Roughly $650 for the repairs (understandable for a small, paint transfer), but the kicker is the near $1300 for a rental vehicle in which the other owner got to have a a comparable rental vehicle to theirs, for 15 days. I immediately questioned why on earth would they get the rental car for so long and was told it was was because of the Oban holiday. What kills me is that it took two days to do the work, but the car just sat at a garage for nearly two weeks while the other owner was traipsing about in a rental. Now I get it, the US is different from Japan. In the US when similar incidents occur, one party’s insurance will authorize a rental at X $ amount and Y amount of days, based upon extent of damage, and the same company will also find the repair shop and handle the coordination. I feel the other owner took advantage of the situation and knowingly did this on purpose and my insurance company (AIG) is simply passing the buck without any solace or care. Is there anything I can do because my insurance company is barely telling me anything at all other than vague responses or not answering the simple questions I am asking them.
