Hi All,
We are going to spend 22 days in Japan. 3-4 nights of this are going to be spent in a mountain onsen town, while the remaining days will all be spent in Tokyo.
We are trying to decide if we should stay all 18 nights in the same hotel, or if we should split it between two hotels in separate locations. All 18+ days in Tokyo will be in succession, with the ryokan stay at the end of our trip.
I like the Ginza area for its accessibility to the fish markets, Ueno, Akihabara, Asakusa, and all of the markets/yokochos/restaurants we are interested in. I also like Shinjuku for its access to yokochos, shopping, neon lights, blade runner vibes, Shibuya, Ebisu, Meiji, and western areas of Tokyo.
I like the idea of staying in one area so I can feel like I’m really settling into my vacation and don’t have to worry about moving and checking in again. Plus, I hear the trains do a great job of getting everyone around quickly. However, I don’t want to miss out on the experience that takes place when you actually stay local in a particular city.
If you had 18+ days in Tokyo, would you split your time between a hotel in Ginza and and a hotel in Shinjuku or stay the entirety of the trip in one of those places? I’m not interested in staying in more than 2 locations.
Thanks!
