Still way too early to tell but could very well be the next “Ace”, or *the* top guy.
Interesting to see if he joins a faction, wether he’ll be a face or heel.
His time in NOAH was fantastic and if his feud with Kaito Kiyomiya is anything to go by, he’s determined to surpass his seniors.
I’ve kept up with NOAH for the past few years and as a NOAH fan, I’m going to really miss him. They needed someone like Ryohei Oiwa to fill out the roster. As a NJPW fan, I’m extremely excited to see what Oiwa will bring. He has a few different stories to start rebuilding, such as being #2 behind Kosei Fujita for TMDK, or being left behind by various possible mentors, if he’s a heel great. If he comes back and earns former mentors respects to be a babyface, also great.
Everyone is gonna want him to do an Oiwa Shock just like they wanted a Tsuji Shock and an Umino Shock and an Uemura Shock but it won’t happen and he will settle into the card and people will be disappointed but then like him.
I’m a bit curious about him and Fujita as that was clearly the angle they were going for after Fujita got brought into TMDK, but they’re different weight classes.
Don’t really keep track of NOAH which I do feel guilty about. I’ll wait a year until I truly judge him. I thought Yuya was awful but then he became one of my favorites.
Pretty high, a lot of this will depend on how they view him but I think he can at least become an upper midcarder. A legit challenger for the top title and consistently at around 10 points in the G1
Watched his bigger matches in Noah and was super impressed, especially the Kiyomiya ones which were great.
I think none of the young guys are really set in the roles yet, Tsuji is the only guy that’s on the cusp of the main event if not there yet, so if he can win over the crowd I think it’s not too late for him to enter into ace convos.
From what I’ve seen….holy shit, he could be the best of the new class minus Fujita. Dude is THICK too, you can tell he’s been putting the work in which is great, wrestling needs more jacked dudes
Dude is ahead of the other young guys and he’s grown a Japanese fan base already.
Love Oiwa. Would love if he reached the Ace status. I think him, Tsuji, and Umino will be the big 3 of the future.
He’s better than the previous generation except maybe Fujita. He is gonna be a huge star.
Within the context of the new gen of Japanese heavyweights? He’s higher on my WOTY list than Shota and Ren. With Aoyagi is debatable, he’s not definitely above Yuya or Tsuji and definitely not above Anzai, Kaito or Takeshita.
Watching his work in Noah from tag to singles. And Oiwas connection to the Japanese audience exceeded what I expected. He definitely had the best excursion in the past 4 years.
For me I expect big things for him once he return. If booked right he could be that young Ace that the company can put focus on for the next couple years.
He somewhat reminds me to Okada just in terms his style and look. Ladies are going to love this kid.
His build is great, strikes are really good still has room for improvement but definitely an exciting young star and his experience at a younger age in not only Noah but NJPW as well will definitely pay dividends, I think he could very well be one of the next top guys in Noah If not maybe he could go over to NJPW and disrupt what Yuya, Tsuji, Kidd, Shota, & Narita got going on and become the next best young guy
