Medical internship in Japan

Hi! So I’m in my last year of medical school in Slovenia (EU) and I really want to do a 1-4 month internship outside Europe, my first choice is Japan. However, I have no idea how to approach this as my university has no agreements with Japanese universities/hospitals. Any suggestions? Do you think it’s a reasonable plan? What criteria is important when applying for an internship in Japan? Is medical field there highly competitive? Are internships paid?
Any info will be greatly appreciated!

  1. There are a few different options available to you. Different programs have different application processes and acceptance criteria. I would not expect them to be paid.

    Check out these samples:

This blurb from the Yokohama schools page probably applies universally:

    >*If the applicant’s proficiency in Japanese language is limited to an elementary level, while the applicant is not expected to be highly proficient in Japanese, they should not expect an English-only environment.

    Good luck!
