Free bike parking?

Im on exchange for 1 semester here in Kyoto and live in a share house. I just bought a bike, as that is cheaper than commuting to campus, but realized that I do not have bike parking in the building and you cannot park on the streets. Im from the Netherlands so this is just very strange for me.
The paid biking spaces are just too expensive for me. I tried parking it at the family mart but they moved my bike onto the road.
– should i be afraid that my bike gets towed away?

The building in a small street and there are no bikes on the street except two bikes of the shop beside it. Those bikes do stand on the pedestrian line.
– what are the changes that my bike get towed away if i were to put it in front of the building?

  • does anyone know a cheap place to store my bike? It is a second hand one so im really not scared that it gets stolen. I would place it against a lantern if that was not illegal.

  • i read that there is free parking at shrines etc, but do they remove the bikes that are left at the end of the day?

  • should i just sell the bike and take the L? I do like biking in Kyoto and it would safe me money if i did not have to pay for the parking

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
