13. Pretty terrible that they are using a picture of Taliban member waving a machine gun for the story as it gives the impression that that is what people from Afghanistan are like and would just add to xenophobia and not wanting to take in more refugees.

    Also this is hardly a surprise, the support is poor because the Japanese government don’t want the people here and are only doing so to save face. You just need to look at the recent stories of the international apprenticeship schemes and how the workers were treated in that to see exactly how Japan thinks about immigration.

14. Reading the actual article it’s sounds as if these people are bitching about the fact that the only jobs that they can get being newly arrived gaijin who only speak English (and Dari/Pashto) are too big a step down for them because they “used to work at an embassy”.

    Countries accepting refugees owe them nothing more than relative safety and the meeting of their basic needs. Not full language support. Not guaranteed nice jobs.

    As for the ones who decided to go back to Afghanistan, meh, they probably miss the Bachi Bazi.
