I'm coming in as a 33 year old JET this year and am curious about university English teaching. I have 4 years collegiate teaching experience in another field (classical music), but have developed hand issues that inhibit my full musical capacity.
Am I too old to go to school for a PhD in linguistics after JET? Not sure if Japanese University hiring committees are sensitive to age. I've seen a few programs at Sophia and TUJ that look interesting. I am aware that my previous teaching experience is irrelevant for employment. I'd also have to work on getting some relevant publications.
Any advice helpful,
