Are sexual predators on the rise in Japan?

Utterly disgusted with the amount of acts disrespect to women and children occurring almost daily. It seems to me that the instances are increasing.

  1. May be Instead of increasing, the reports of these cases have increased, which means that victims have less stigma about reporting these cases, the victim are no longer blamed as before, and the public doesn’t support the repetition of these abuses.. Or maybe I’m wrong.

  2. When a news story’s headline is arranged as a yes/no question, the answer is almost always no. Because if the answer were yes, the news story would have the evidence to make their headline a positive assertion. I think we can apply the same concept to your post.

Likewise, anyone trying to use Tokyo Reporter as evidence supporting *anything* needs to take a moment and re-think their life.

  3. It kind of feels that way. I felt when I came here 4 years ago there was not much news about sexual crimes, but maybe it was due to COVID and all the lockdowns. I did see news about DV both in Japan and the US. Lately I see so many reports of SA.

  4. Is not that they are on the rise, it’s that they are being reported more, so they are becoming more visible as well.
Sexual assault in Japan has always been there, specially against underage girls.

  5. It wouldn’t surprise me. When the economy is doing poorly and you have larger numbers of people struggling financially you get more theft and other financial crime. It could work similarly for sexual crimes.
