Hi everyone,
My partner and I had initially booked one of the hotels/ryokans in Hakone, but after reading some recent reviews about outdated facilities and even mold issues, we’re having second thoughts. Plus, I have a shellfish allergy, so the elaborate kaiseki meals aren’t really going to work for me. I should mention that I have tattoos, so private baths are a must.
We’re now thinking of spending the day/night in Hakone differently—maybe booking a few hours at a beautiful day-use ryokan with a private onsen, getting a couples’ massage, and then heading somewhere nice for dinner. We’re celebrating 7 years together, so we really want something romantic and intimate!
Has anyone else done this instead of booking an overnight stay? Any tips on which day-use ryokans are worth it? How do you go about booking one? I’m finding the websites hard to navigate for day-use. Also, is it better to stay around Gora or somewhere else with good access to restaurants and things to do in the evening?
Would love to hear your suggestions or if you’ve had any similar experiences. Thanks so much in advance for the help!
