I've been to Japan before, and have gotten around Tokyo a bit already. Obviously the city is massive, so there's lots of stuff I've missed or skipped. I have some free time in my schedule this time around and I'm looking for something different, or a lesser known, or an overlooked area to check out. Or maybe even something that isn't lesser known, but I haven't done and should.
To help with efficiency I'll try to list off some more notable places/things I've been, seen, and done already. Sorry in advance if I forgot something and someone suggests it:
- Roppongi
- Ginza
- Ueno
- National museum
- Sensoji
- Asakusa
- Akihabara
- Shibuya
- Meiji jingu/Yoyogi
- Shinjuku gyoen
- Metropolitan building
- Kabukicho/golden gai/omoide yokocho
- Nikko
- Imperial palace/Tokyo station/nihombashi
- Akasaka/Hie/Inari jinja
- Meguro/river promenade
- Institute for Nature Study
- Kawagoe
- Kagurazaka
- Kamakura
- Ikebukuro/Sunshine city
- Hamarikyu
- Tokyo dome/Koishikawa
- Tsukiji
- Shimbashi
- Tokyo tower
- Rikugien
- Ebisu
- Teamlabs
- Kabuki za
Even if I listed a place but there's something very specific in the area you can think of please mention it anyway. I've potentially missed it if it's not "well known".
For some additional context I've also been to: Sapporo, Otaru, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, and Hiroshima. Also, I'm skipping Fuji intentionally to spend a more significant amount of time in that area specifically on a future trip.
I'm generally open to just about anything for suggestions in the greater Tokyo area as long as the travel time is less than/around 3 hour round trip from Tokyo Station.
I ate too much tonight, and the full stomach coupled with the rain compelled me to head back to the hotel early, so now I have some time to figure out what I want to do tomorrow or Friday!
