Just sharing our CC fraud charge story so this doesn't happen to other people.
Noticed just last month of Sept. that our credit card had a suspicious charge of ¥81,892 way back July 10th from CREATIVESPACE.CO.UK. The website doesn't even exist! Checked emails, chat logs, SMS for OTP, etc. and we couldn't remember spending that much that month.
I called EPOS and they said they can't refund / launch an investigation anymore as this is way past the grace period (I think 1 month?). They also shared there were 2 other charges on few days before / after that date but those got refunded (probably EPOS fraud check automatically refunded, but this somehow fell through).
We work in tech and barely shop outside of Amazon / Mercari. The interesting part is we couldn't figure out how we got compromised, or maybe phished. We have SMS 2FA so whenever we buy something online we confirm OTP via SMS. Perhaps it was when we paid in some establishment and the attacker used contactless payment? Attacker also made sure to only have that single big charge probably so that it doesn't look fishy and the CC owner doesn't notice (or maybe they couldn't anymore, since they used contactless payment?).
Lesson learned: Turn on your email / SMS notifications and do frequent audits so you can act on it ASAP in case it happens to you.
RIP my ¥81k yen.
